Bet is a self taught artist with a lifelong love of art history.  She has been drawing and painting since early childhood and, having worked in the NHS for many years, decided to go back to her passion and has been exhibiting and selling her work for the last seven years. Bet's aim was to begin a fine art degree last year but this has been interrupted due to the current crisis, she hopes to get back to it next year. 

 

Born in India, Bet has lived in England since early childhood. She has lived in London for most of her adult life and says "I love the views across the Thames at almost any point, historical, industrial and rural.  In particular I enjoy the possibilities of layering colour to represent the industrial and modern building heritage along the Thames as at Greenwich and Deptford.  Like many artists before me, I keep coming back to the views across bridges and buildings with the river as a constant."

Bet's work is influenced by expressionist, abstract and gestural artists such as Andre Derain, Odilon Redon and Auguste Macke. She uses colour and form to define every day objects, landscapes and cityscapes. "Working intuitively, I enjoy allowing the accidental to bring excitement to my paintings, often working on several canvases at a time and moving between them to keep things fresh. I use acrylics and watercolour and enjoy the layering afforded by collage and monoprinting."
