IT CAUGHT MY EYE

THE EXHIBITION

This exhibition is the culmination of my four month free membership at Hatcham House co-working space funded through Lewisham's Creative Enterprise Zone. The CEZ sponsored six people with different creative practices to use Hatcham House to  professionalise, build and grow their creative businesses. I've used their fantastic desk space and roof terrace to create new artwork and as a base to explore and draw the somewhat overlooked area of New Cross.

I'm delighted to share pages from my New Cross sketchbooks alongside drawings and paintings of other parts of South East London and beyond. I specialise in en plein air landscapes and enjoy sketching places, people and buildings. I've always lived in SE London so this isn't urban sketching for me, just sketching locally. I'm never without a sketchbook and my favourite indian ink pens in case something catches my eye.

my practice

Often what I draw are places you've walked past a hundred times without noticing. I want you to see as I do. Enjoy the everyday, the small details, see your surroundings with fresh eyes. If you see me out sketching please stop and have a chat, I love making connections almost as much as I love drawing.

I feel strongly connected to the places I draw & paint, preferring to be in them as I do. My aim is to convey sights, smells, sounds and weather and share my love of place with the viewer. I work in soft pastels and acrylic paint as well as ink pen and watercolour, these tend to be larger pieces begun on location and finished from reference photos.

Future Exhibitions

I'm a member of Blackheath Art Society and Bromley Art Society so will be taking part in their 2022 programme of exhibitions and events. I attend art classes at Adult Learning Lewisham and take part in their student showcase events. I also hope to participate in Artists Trails or Group Shows with other local artists throughout the year.

Commissions

I accept commissions to draw or paint places special to you, I can work from photos as well as on location, which is my preference where possible. Recent commissions include an ink and watercolour of a Victorian house in Balham and a soft pastel view of the City from Gipsy Hill. Please do get in touch to discuss options.
